Final Reflection on Open Educational Resources (OER) Initiative
I am grateful to have had the opportunity to participate in the CUNY OER scale-up initiative by customizing, substantially editing, and adding my own contribution in the full-length textbook. During this year I worked on creating original content and completing a textbook Principals of Macroeconomics 3e: A Revised, Online Textbook for Kingsborough Community College Students. This book is a revised OER Introduction to Macroeconomics textbook designed for Kingsborough Community College students enrolled in Macroeconomics ECO 1200. It is a derivative of the OpenStax Introduction to Macroeconomics 3e by David Shapiro, Daniel MacDonald and Steven Greenlaw and “Principals of Macroeconomics 3e: A Revised, Online Textbook for Bronx Community College Students” by Karen David.
I was able to provide a clearer description of the economic terms, such as scarcity, opportunity cost, macroeconomic indicators (GDP, inflation, and unemployment) using examples that, from prior experience with my KCC students enrolled in Macroeconomics and Microeconomics courses, found easier to understand. The textbook is now in more alignment with the lectures in the class. However, when working on this textbook, I tried to consider all students, major and non-majors, to receive a clearer explanation and application of economics. In addition to being content with content of the textbook, I found it helpful to learn how to use pressbook. This is a good tool that can help me further my contribution in other textbooks.
