    Final Reflection on Open Educational Resources (OER) Initiative

    I am grateful to have had the opportunity to participate in the CUNY OER scale-up initiative by customizing, substantially editing, and adding my own contribution in the full-length textbook. During this year I worked on creating original content and completing a textbook Principals of Macroeconomics 3e: A Revised, Online Textbook for Kingsborough Community College Students. This book is a revised OER Introduction to Macroeconomics textbook designed for Kingsborough Community College students enrolled in Macroeconomics ECO 1200.     Creating OER in Collaboration

    For the past year I have been working with Michelle Turnbull (Bergen Community College, formerly with KCC/College Now) on researching and writing an article about the benefits of creating OER in collaboration. Through our research for this article, we have come to understand that OER actually foster a collaborative spirit at every turn–from how OER are shared to the ways in which we interface with OER (shared annotation on platforms such as Manifold, etc). I’m interested in discussing this notion–that OER actually seems to encourage a sort of “group effort”–from the development of OER to how students interface with the text.
