    Creating OER in Collaboration

    For the past year I have been working with Michelle Turnbull (Bergen Community College, formerly with KCC/College Now) on researching and writing an article about the benefits of creating OER in collaboration. Through our research for this article, we have come to understand that OER actually foster a collaborative spirit at every turn–from how OER are shared to the ways in which we interface with OER (shared annotation on platforms such as Manifold, etc).     The Value of OER in K-12!

    For the past six years I have been co-coordinating the Humanities course for College Now at Kingsborough. During the pandemic, my colleague Michelle Turnbull (fellow co-coordinator for the course) and I decided to create an OER for this class. The result has been so exciting. Through support from the OER program on the KCC campus (thank you Shawna Brandle!!), Michelle and I received grant funds to support a truly collaborative effort that enabled the creation of this OER, entitled MODERN HUMANITIES.
